Throw leftovers in the microwave, and voila! Spicy Szechuan salmon over rice.

Writing to you all in my skivvies, after finishing my third night breathing underwater. Beginning my nightly hour-of-the-wolf sweep of the 100 research abstracts of the day, little paragraph-long windows into a laboratory's world, a glimpse of the mindscape of a scientist, months of work condensed well or poorly into knots of sentences, seedpods of words. Ideoprospecting is how I think of it, the patrol near midnight, talent scouting for that one idea, the grasp towards muse, that I can seize and plant in the collective unconscious, with the hum of nightly television, the news of the day and the sitcoms of callow yesteryear, insistent behind me.

Might have failed to mention in recent entries that I've started SCUBA diving lessons. Started breathing underwater last week, although most of that was spent choking and blind, water flooding the mask due to lack of training, subsequently inhaled up nose . (Your eyes can't focus when immersed in water, btw. Hence the blindness.) But that was last week, and this week I know how to exchange all the breathing tubes, swim blind and clear the mask with air even when underwater.

I'm one week away from finishing, after which I have to wait until May to receive my full certification, as my teacher here in the city's not about to dive in the winter in city waters, when the waters are about 50 degrees F and six-foot swells can run across the surface.

But that walk into the water and the hiss of air of the tubes as I live under the sea, that should stay until spring.

Now to plan horseback riding, bartending, kayaking, airplane piloting and ballroom dancing, CPR, language and guitar lessons for this year.

Best -- M.
